Alternatives to The New Haven: Local Options for Working Parents in San Diego

Being a working parent is tough. When you're trying to juggle your career with caring for an infant or toddler, it can often feel like you’re running on empty. Many parents turn to The New Haven for support, whether that’s through childcare, a peaceful workspace, or education on parenting. But what if our remote onsite option isn’t the right fit for you? Or perhaps you're on our waitlist, and you need something to fill the gap? Don’t worry – there are local resources available to help.

At the end of the day, our mission is to help working parents thrive together with their children so we have gathered together a list of childcare options we would recommend to you:

Montessori Childcare

For many parents, childcare is a top priority. Fortunately, San Diego offers a variety of reputable childcare centers. Whether you're looking for Montessori-inspired care or a play-based environment, these centers can offer structured learning and care for your child while you focus on work.

  • Montessori School of La Jolla: A Montessori accredited facility known for its calm, nurturing approach and firm adherence to the philosophy. They used to be a training center where Montessori Guides from around the world would come to receive their certification.

  • Aspen Leaf Preschool: A very small neighborhood Montessori school perfect if you live nearby and want a more “one-room schoolhouse” feel.

General Childcare Centers

These centers offer a variety of more traditional group care that is based in a different philosophy of Early Childhood Development than Montessori.

  • Learning Jungle: Formerly known as “Little Sprouts” there are multiple locations across the city and the schedules offered are wide ranging.

  • KidVentures: They take a much more upbeat, entertaining approach to childcare which could be suitable depending on the personality and age of your child. They too have multiple locations around the county.

Co-working Spaces with Childcare

If you need a dedicated workspace but want to keep your child close, San Diego has several co-working spaces that offer childcare services. This option allows you to remain focused on work while knowing your child is in safe hands.

  • The Well: A Community for Women: A Women only space with both routine and drop in options at a very affordable rate. They were located in La Mesa and recently moved into a shared church space in North Park.

  • Yalla: A new Banker’s Hill coworking space built by the former marketing team at The New Haven! Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery.

These spaces help bridge the gap for working parents who need a professional environment but can’t always leave their children at home.

Private Nannies or Babysitters

Hiring a private nanny or babysitter can be an ideal solution for parents looking for personalized care. This option offers flexibility and allows your child to stay in the comfort of your home. You can set hours that work best for your schedule, and you can choose someone who aligns with your parenting style.

  • Nanny Lane: There are agencies in San Diego that specialize in placing experienced nannies, many of whom are trained in early childhood development and educational approaches.

  • Local Facebook Groups: you might find posts from real people and nannies looking for work or make your own post with your needs asking nannies to send a private message with their resume. A real diy solution.
